VICE CHANCELLOR ADMONISHES NEW STUDENTS TO BE DISCIPLINED

The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Professor Nlerum S. Okogbule, has admonished newly admitted students to be disciplined for them to be properly educated and graduate with good grades. The Vice- Chancellor admonished the new students during the 2021/2022 Orientation Programme held at the Convocation Arena of the university on Monday 25th April 2022.

The Vice-Chancellor who was represented at the orientation exercise by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Adminstration), Professor Nnamdi S. Okoroma, congratulated the students for been lucky and admitted out of the thousands who applied for admission into the University.

He said they are blessed to be in the Rivers State University, stating that the University has maintained a high standard and as a result, do not go on strike; noting that the students are certain to graduate in record time.

The VC’s representative charged the students to obey the rules and regulations of the University, manage their time and make up their minds to be straight A’s students. He emphasized that they can be anything they want to be in life, so long as they are disciplined and open to learning, as the University awards degrees to students who are found worthy in character and learning.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Occasion and Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. Confidence Wachukwu, encouraged the students to take the orientation exercise and their studies very serious, so as to graduate with flying colors and make their parents proud.

Speaking on the topic “University Regulations and all Round Students Conduct”, the Registrar of the University, Dr. Sydney C. Eyindah, said the University has rules and regulations and they are contained in the student’s handbook. He charged the students to read the rules and regulations, warning that any student who goes against the rules, will face the consequences.

The Acting Bursar of the University, Mr James Orji Ebere who spoke on “Fees Payment, Registration and Hitch-Free Examination”, highlighted the various fees to be paid by the students, stressing that fees payment are compulsory for students to complete their registration and sit for their examination.

Also speaking on “Enhancing Studentship through e-campus experience in RSU”, the Director of ICTC, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi explained how the fresh students can use the portal for registration, payment of fees and viewing of results.

On his part, the Dean of Education and Director of Sports Unit, Prof. Joseph Vipene, spoke on the need for the students to engage in extra-curricular activities, stressing that Wednesdays from 12noon have been designated for sports.
