PROFILE OF THE PROVOST COLLEGE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene was born on 28th day of October, 1966 to the family of Mr. & Mrs. Obey Orluwene in Rumuakunde-Emohua in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State of Nigeria.
Prof. C. G. Orluwene attended his primary education at State School 1, Emohua and obtained his FSLC in 1980 and later proceeded to Government Secondary School Emohua for his secondary education where he obtained his WASC in 1985.
He attended University of Port Harcourt between 1987 – 1990 obtaining B.Med Sc (Anatomy). He continued with the University of Port Harcourt between 1990 – 1995 obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB;BS).
He later proceeded for his postgraduate education at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria where he obtained his Fellowship of the Postgraduate College in Pathology (FMCPath).

He has a number of professional certificates in his discipline from the UK, South Africa & USA. He specializes in Chemical Pathology (Sub-specialty of Endocrinology & Metabolic Disorders). His research interest is in Metabolic Disorders and Endocrinology. He has written several books and contributed chapters in reference books in Chemical Pathology and Medicine. He has published more than 45 articles in National and International Journals.
Professor C. G. Orluwene is a renowned Teacher, Medical Educator and a Consultant Physician. He was engaged in the University of Port Harcourt as Lecturer I in 2005 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Chemical Pathology in 2014. He has at various times while in the University of Port Harcourt served as HOD, Coordinator, Ag. Dean. He has also served in various committees of the university e.g convocation committee, students’ welfare committee, senate committee etc.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administrators and member of the following professional bodies:-
1. Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)
2. Medical & Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN)
3. American Association of Clinical Chemists (AACC)
4. International Federation of Clinical Chemists (IFCC)
5. Nigerian Association of Clinical Chemists (NACC)
6. Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN)
7. College of Nigeria Pathologists (CNP) and several others.
In 2018, he was appointed Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences in College of Medical Sciences, Rivers State University. In October 2020 he was appointed the Provost, College of Medical Sciences, Rivers State University, a position he currently occupies to date. He is the Chairman, Committee of Provost and Deans of the Rivers State University.
He is a Christian and General Overseer of Temple of Redemption Church. He is married with six children.
