Directorate Of Students Affairs

Introduction

The Student Affairs Unit (now Directorate of Student Affairs) has long existed in the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.  The aim of this Unit has been to cater for the welfare and wellbeing of the students at all times; including student relations which is more volatile than staff matters.  This implies that any failure to promptly attend to their complaints could lead to crisis in the University.  This, no doubt, underscores the significanceof the Directorate of Student Affairs in the University.  The Directorate is as old as the Establishment Unit of the University.  It was initially a Unit under the Registry until 1983.  Now it is part of the office of the Vice Chancellor.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. Introduction of the first e-voting in Student Union elections
  2. Proper and better co-ordination of orientation of fresh students

iii. Prompt mobilization of graduands for NYSC Programme

  1. Heightened involvement in the activities of Matriculation and Convocation Ceremonies
  2. Prompt allocation of Hostel Accommodation
  3. Effective co-ordination of hostel sanitation exercises

vii. Proper control of food vendors on campus

 viii Alternative power supply through a generating set and inverter

  1. Putting the NDDC and FCMB luxury Hostels to use
  2. Expansion and modern furnishing of Directorate Offices
  3. Students’ Dialogue Centre (2020) with digital facilities and inverter for virtual meetings

 xii. Absence of students’ unrest for a long time now

 xiii. Clearance of backlog of students due for NYSC Mobilization

 xiv. Best NYSC Mobilization exercise Institution.

OBJECTIVES OF THE UNIT

Provide welfare services for the student, for peace and harmony with view to enhance good learning environment for the achievement of the goals and objectives of this university.
