University Library

History of the University Library

The Rivers State University of Science and Technology Library grew from the College of Science and Technology Library established in 1970. It moved to its present accommodation in October 2002. The passage of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology bill 2017 necessitated our change in nomenclature to the Rivers State University Library. To date, three University Librarians have headed the library beginning with Jegekuma, A Ombu (1980-2003), Prof. Blessing Ahiauzu (2003-2017) and presently Dr. Jennifer N. Igwela (2017-date). Over the years, the Central Library of the Rivers State University coordinates the activities of the satellite libraries across the faculties for effective discharge of library and information services. In recent times, the central library has grown from the use of Manual Catalogue Cabinets to the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and presently our Modern Library Management System the READABLE installed in October 2018.
