Dr. Fortune Somiari Amah-Tariah is a Professor of Physiology with special research interest in Reproductive and Blood Physiology.
She has passion for learning and self-improvement, curious and inquisitive, with a desire for continual learning and growth. She is thoughtful and reflective, taking the time to consider different perspectives and ideas, engaging and interactive, enjoying conversations and discussions related personal and collective development.
She has supervised many students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc and PhD) levels.
She has been involved in several professional and administrative offices, some of which are: Head of Department; Postgraduate Coordinator; Associate Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (UPH); External Examiner (Part I MBBS examinations) to various universities; Editorial Board member, Port Harcourt Medical Journal (PMJ) and College of Medical Sciences Journal (CMSJ), RSU; Member of Senate Committee on Academic Programs and Policies (SCAPP), UPH; Chairman and member of several ad-hoc committees of the Faculty and the University.
Prof. Amah-Tariah is a recipient of the L’OREAL-UNESCO Fellowship Award for Sub-Saharan Africa (For Women in Science- FWIS) in 2013.
She has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the body of knowledge, and a co-author of the NUC CCMAS (National Universities Commission Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic standards) in Medical Physiology.
