Hon. Justice I. N. Ndu (Rtd.) Commends Gov. Wike Over Massive Support to RSU

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 12th and 13th Governing Council of the Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Orowurukwo, Port Harcourt, Hon. Justice Iche N. Ndu (Rtd.), has expressed appreciation to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, over the massive support for infrastructural development of the University.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council expressed appreciation to Governor Wike, who is also the Visitor of the University, during a Retreat for Council Members, Principal Officers, former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Provost and Deans as well as Directors of Institutes, Centres and Units, held on Saturday 23rd April, 2022, in Port Harcourt.

Hon. Justice Ndu stated that the ongoing infrastructural development of the University by the Rivers State Government, especially the construction and completion of various Faculty Buildings, new Senate Building and the establishment of four new campuses at Etche, Emohua, Ahoada and Sakpenwa, is unprecedented in the history of the institution.

He described Governor Wike as a visionary leader and a lover of education, stressing that Governor Wike has not only transformed the educational system of Rivers State but has also developed other sectors of the State.

He used the forum to wish the Governor success in his aspiration to contest for the position of President of the Country, stating that Governor Wike has the foresight and courage to improve the economy and address the security challenges facing the Nation.

He called on participants at the Retreat to join the campaign against illegal oil refining, which he said has continued to claim the lives of many and the destroy the environment.

In his Keynote Address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, highlighted some achievements of the 12th and 13th Council under the leadership of Hon. Justice Iche N. Ndu (Rtd.), which he said includes, the establishment of the Registry Directorate System, the construction of the College of Medical Sciences building, the publication of the Five-Year Strategic Development Plan, the ratification of promotion of Professors and Readers, the employment of teaching and non-teaching staff and the ratification of the establishment of new Faculties and Departments, among others.

The Retreat featured lecture presentations on the topic “Relationship between the Council and Management during the Seven Years of tenure of the Council” by Prof. Aaron Ojule and “Governance in a World Class University: Focus on Boundary Conditions between Council and other subsystem” delivered by Prof. Donald Hamilton.

Another highpoint of the Retreat was the discussion segment handled by Sir Dr. Nnamdi Akani and Barr. Albert Amadi, with engaging contributions from participants.
