DR. OTENE BENJAMIN BAMEYI
Dr. Otene Benjamin Bameyi is an accomplished academic and researcher in the field of Fisheries and Aquatic Ecology. He is a member of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Environment, Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, where he contributes to teaching, research, supervision, and academic development.
Dr. Otene holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture (B. Fisheries and Aquaculture) from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, as well as Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees in Aquatic Ecology from Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.
He is an Associate Professor of Aquatic Ecology, with academic and research interests spanning various aspects of aquatic ecosystems, fisheries science, environmental assessment, aquatic biodiversity, water quality, aquatic organisms, and the sustainable management and conservation of aquatic resources. As a researcher, he has contributed to the body of knowledge in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences through numerous research publications in academic journals. His research activities reflect a strong interest in understanding aquatic ecosystems, their biological communities, environmental conditions, and factors affecting the productivity and sustainability of aquatic resources.
His academic responsibilities include undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research supervision, mentoring of students, participation in academic and professional activities, and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Through these activities, he contributes to the development of students and researchers in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Ecology, and related environmental disciplines. He is therefore recognized as an academic and researcher whose work is focused on advancing knowledge in Aquatic Ecology, Fisheries, and the sustainable management of aquatic environments. His combination of academic training, research experience, publications, teaching, and postgraduate supervision reflects his commitment to the advancement of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences in Nigeria and beyond.
In addition to his teaching, research, and supervisory responsibilities, Dr. Otene Benjamin Bameyi has undertaken several administrative and academic service responsibilities within the University. These include serving as the Departmental Examination Officer, SIWES Coordinator, Faculty Timetable Officer, Assistant Faculty Examination Officer, and Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator, among several other departmental and faculty responsibilities. Through these roles, he has contributed to the effective coordination of academic programmes, examination processes, student industrial work experience, postgraduate activities, timetable planning, and the general administration and development of the Department and Faculty.benjamine.otene@ust.edu.ng
