Prof. Chidi E. Halliday is a pioneer Professor of Corporate and Commercial Law in Faculty of Law of the Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and the premier Head of the rebranded Department of Commercial and Industrial Law. He is an oracle of Corporate Law and Practice, and a renowned academic with over 20 years experience. Courses taught at the undergraduate level, both past and present, include Revenue Law, Company Law, Law of Contract, Commercial Law, and prospectively Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law. He currently teaches Comparative Company Law and Law of Comparative Corporate Management at the postgraduate level.
Prof. Chidi E. Halliday’s career began as a political scientist when he earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours in Political Science from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. Soon thereafter, he proceeded to pursue his legal career at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, where he got his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Honours Degree and was called to the Nigerian Bar upon completion of the vocational training by Council of Legal Education where he was awarded a Barrister-at-Law (BL) Honours Degree. Prof. Chidi Halliday is a British Chevening Scholar (2003/2004), consequent upon which he studied at University College London and obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M) Honours Degree. Prof. Halliday bagged a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Company Law at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. As a committed, devout, and reverent Christian, Prof. Halliday undertook a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Theology at the Redeemer’s Bible College.
Furthermore, Prof. Chidi E. Halliday is an External Examiner for LLM Dissertations and PhD Theses to both public and private universities in Nigeria. Likewise, he is an External Consultant to reputable corporate entities and regulators on corporate and insolvency matters. He has published over 70 papers in peer reviewed and refereed journals, edited books, and conferences; and editorship of books and journals. Prof. Halliday is a member of the RSU Senate, and has served in several committees of the Faculty and University respectively where he has made impactful and stellar contributions. He is a member of the Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
