The Students’ Union Government (SUG) in Rivers State University was established in 1980. Then it was the Rivers State University of Science And Technology. The SUG serves as a link between the University Management and the Students. It is thus the leadership body of the conscience and interest of every student; both the weak and strong.
Activities of the SUG must be in accordance with the constitution of the Union which is the grund norm.
The constitution which was drafted in 2017 by six man Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) having Hon. Hejirika Goodluck Mebom as the Chairman of the Committee.
The constitution is called and referred to as THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STUDENTS’ UNION OF THE RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY, NKPOLU-OROWORUKWO, PORT HARCOURT.

III. The Students’ Judicial Council (SJC)
The Union has produced number of Presidents in yearly intervals till date with Sen. Omano Kelechi as its current President and who came into office on 25Th February, 2022.
There have been cases of Caretaker Committees, periods without Union officers and instances where officers, like Presidents, were unable to complete their tenures due to one crisis or the other. These factors have made it difficult to have a compilation of the names of officers and their tenures that could be said to be as exact as desired.
